The Land Rover which started production in 1948 has played a major role in the reconstruction of Sabah . It has been here for as long as memory serves, in the beginning, after the devastating world war, we were left in tatters and our liberators did the best they could with what little was left. The crown Colony of North Borneo was established in 1946 after the dissolution of British Military administration and in 1948, the first of its kind arrived with the Engineering Corps of the commonwealth and thus began our long standing association with the Land Rover series and the reconstruction of Borneo.
Malaysia’s first Prime Minister, the late Tunku Abdul Rahman, rode a Land Rover Series I in Stadium Merdeka during the declaration of independence of Malaya in 1957.
For sixty odd years the Land Rover Series, 110, Defender, Puma or whatever you call it has remained at the forefront of Adventure, Expeditions and Discovery.
Headed by club president Datuk Henry Hing, the Sabah Land Rover Club is now an officially registered club and is now inviting members to join our club with following main objectives:
- To build and promote friendship among Land Rover owners and enthusiast.
- To promote friendship and cultural exchange with other Land Rovers Clubs.
- To organise 4×4 events and promote sustainable adventure tourism for the state of Sabah.
- To promote and support activities that preserve and protect the natural environment and community service.
- To organise 4×4 orientation, demonstration and handling skills training for members.
It is an honour that on the 12 November 2016, The Sabah Land Rover Club will be officially launched at The Sime Darby Auto Connexion Land Rover Showroom, Kolombong, to instil a sense of belonging and camaraderie among Land Rover Owners.
Everyone are invited to attend and there will be a showcase and display of the oldest working Series One Land Rover, restored to its original specification, some later models and also the registration of the very LAST Land Rover Puma 110 Station Wagon in Malaysia as the model has been discontinued.
